Davy Jones
For the three people out there who didn't see the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel this past weekend, you missed out on what I consider to be the best special FX ever found in a film.
To be entirely honest, I'm still not sure if the character of Davy Jones was a mixture of live action and CG, or all CG. I think it was the latter, but the simple fact that the average person won't be able to tell speaks volumes about what a wonderful job the team at ILM did in creating the character of Jones. It was amazing sitting in the theater and watching him move on a big canvas screen and yet being able to know exactly what he smelled like and felt like. Not literally, but my point is that his skin seemed so real and familiar that you could smell and feel it in a sense without ever coming in contact with it.
It didn't stop at Jones though, as all of the pirates in his crew were amazingly unique in their own ways as well. The highlights for me were probably the shell head pirate, the hammerhead pirate, and the wall that held the torch and spoke to Orlando Bloom.
The film is totally worth the price of admission, providing close to 2.5 hours of entertainment, even at the current inflated ticket price.
If you have reservations about seeing the film, but are a fan of CG art in any way, you owe it to yourself to see this picture.
