Dreamworks announced its fourth quarter and full year 2006 financial results today.
In the fourth quarter, the Company reported operating revenue of $204.3 million with a net loss of approximately $21.3 million, or ($0.20) per share on a fully diluted basis. These results bring the full year reported revenue for 2006 to a total of $394.8 million and net income of $15.1 million, or $0.15 per share on a fully diluted basis.
So after all the dust has settled, Dreamworks Animation pulled in $15 million for the year, despite "Flushed Away" being such a turd at the box office. I happen to like the movie a great deal, but even Jeffrey Katzenberg threw it under the bus.
"Looking at our 2006 releases overall, Over the Hedge finished as one of the top performing domestic theatrical releases of the year and is performing well in home video," stated Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation. "Flushed Away, however, did not meet financial expectations despite critical acclaim. Its performance offset what was otherwise a strong year for the rest of our titles, especially in the home video market."
Sill, it's a testament to just how profitable the company can be to absorb a loss and still turn a profit, and with 2007 seeing the release of "Shrek the Third," chances are, like Shrek on a hill, the greenbacks will keep rolling in.
I kill myself.

Latino Review has a bunch of images and promotional art for Disney's upcoming "Meet the Robinsons."
I've said this before, but doesn't it feel like Disney is really just throwing everything at a wall to see what sticks with this one? Let's see... Dinousaurs? Check. Robots? Check. Aliens? Check. Talking Animals? Check. Evil villan? Check. Goofy kids? Check. Goth girl? Check.
Enticing me to buy a ticket to "Meet the Robinsons"?
Check.

In case you're living under a rock and haven't had the opportunity of having someone beat another pointless award show down your throat, "Happy Feet" one for Best Animated Feature Film at this year's Oscars.
It's pretty sad when only one of the nominated animated films this year (Cars) was actually animated and not motion captured, and it's only going to get worse once Hollywood begins to really follow the trend, now that HF has won.

Latino Review has posted some brand new images from Sony's upcoming "Surf's Up" film.
My wife is currently in Maui for a wedding, so seeing the beach photos from the film just make me even more jealous than I already was.
And just so everyone is clear, she too wears a coconut bra.

The LlopisAnimation Blog has extracted all of the actual "Ratatouille" movie clips from the recent interview that Brad Bird did with ABC News and placed them all in one convenient location.
The interview is still worth watching in full, but if you're the kind of person who eats the white cream filling out of the Oreos and throws the cookie shell away, then this may be right up your alley.

Aside from holding the Guiness Book of World Records title for most vowels in a last name, Patrick Beaulieu also happens to be an amazing 3D artist, and has just posted his latest work on his official website.
According to Patrick:
Here's my latest character called Bobby Bubble. Ive used 3D studio max 9, Vray, Zbrush, shag fur and Photoshop to created this image.

Animated Views has an interview up with Chris Renaud, co-Director of the Academy Award Nominated "No Time for Nuts."
AV: What would you say was the biggest challenge you faced in writing and co-directing the short?
CR: I think to me, and I think Mike would agree with this, the biggest trick is pacing, honestly. I think that’s kind of the language of film. We had a lot of ideas that we wanted to get in there, and a lot of gags. Just to get them all timed so we felt they were working, and also so a fresh audience could understand them - the sort of balancing the break-neck pace with the clarity - I think that was the biggest challenge we both faced in putting this together.
And unlike the Brad Bird interview I posted a link to yesterday, I'm pretty sure the above shot is actually a picture of Chris.

Brad Bird, director of "The Iron Giant," "The Incredibles," and the upcoming "Ratatouille," has been interviewed over at spline doctors.
It's an interesting listen, and worth your time to hear from the man behind the great animated films listed above.
NOTE: That is not Brad in the image above, as he has far less fur.

The new trailer for "Bee Movie" is now up, and mixes live action Jerry Seinfeld with CG Jerry Seinfeld, both of whom are rather dry and make observations about Grapenuts not being grapes or nuts.
So buzz on over and have a look for yourself.
Isn't the bear in the clip the same one from "Over the Hedge"? They're both Dreamworks films, so it's certainly possible that he makes a little cameo in this one.

Who wants to see a 15 second clip from Disney's new film, "Rapunzel Unleashed," animated by none other than Mr. Glen Keane, animator on such films as "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," and "Tarzan"?

Stephen Ogden has posted the first of what he hopes to be many shorts starring a snowman called, "Flakes."
From the site:
"The idea behind Flakes is to make small, episodic animated films. I'm thinking of them as animated comic strips, and I hope that by keeping things small and simple, I'll be able to get quite a few stories out."
My hope is that in the next episode the snowman finally kills the idiot who always thinks it's funny to take the carrot and coal and make snowman privates with them.

Some of the folks at Kaktus Films got together and made a nice little animation of a clumsy robot.
I did the same thing once on a skateboard, only my eye didn't fall out.
That would have been really cool though.

I'm not sure where this came from, but someone has posted an animation test for "Ratatouille" up on a website called Vimeo.
It's a really fun little clip with some cute animation, so I hope it's up for a while for fans and aspiring animators to check out.

A really nice little spot from Studio Aka for Lloyds TSB.
I actually had to go and look up what Lloyds TSB was, and it's a bank. From watching the commercial, I honestly thought they were probably a company that either made trains or ran a public transportation system of some kind.
The more you know...

Blur's Academy Award Nominated short, "Gopher Broke" is now available on iTunes.
At just $1.99 for the short, you can't help but buy it. It would be sort of like refusing to pay $1.99 for a bowl of gold nuggets dipped in chocolate, where all you had to do was suck all of the choclate off of the little nuggets and then take the gold to the bank. Of course when you got to the bank with a bowl full of slobbery gold nuggets, the teller may ask what the heck you were up to, so maybe getting "Gopher" off of iTunes for the same price really isn't the same at all.
Or is it?

The website for the upcoming "TMNT" film has been updated.
If you ask me, the one thing this site is missing is a healthy dose of dinosaur butt.

The official website for Disney's "Meet the Robinsons" has been updated.
I can almost hear the Disney meeting now, "The official site just doesn't have enough Dinosaur butt in it. Let's make sure that happens with the new one. Kids think butts are funny."

...is no longer up.
Apparantly, Empire Movies had the new trailer up, but have since been asked to take it down by the folks at Paramount. In it's place is a note:
**Updated** at the request of Paramount Pictures, this trailer has been taken offline. It will air on TV this Wednesday on American Idol. Stay tuned for when it will no doubt be available online shortly thereafter.
So if you can manage to stomach another batch of people pretending to be mentally challenged and singing off key with the sole intention of getting on TV so that the former bass player for Journey, a crazy drunk, and a jerkhole snob with too much chest hair can tell them how terrible they sound, feel free to check out the trailer as well.
I'll wait for the YouTube version.

Just got an email today stating that "Minuscule" is coming to DVD March 22nd.
If you haven't seen the show, you really should check it out. Then you should try choclate with peanut butter, as that's really good too.

I'll probably get in trouble for even mentioning the name of the football game that will be played this Sunday, but if you want to watch the new commercial that will be shown during that broadcast for Disney's "Meet the Robinsons," you simply need to swing over to ifilm.
While the screenshot above isn't exactly mind-blowing, it is my favorite part from the short commercial. Of course, that "short" commercial probably cost Disney around a billion dollars to air during the Bowl of Superness.
