Igor Update

I really should be posting this on "hump day," but nonetheless, here is an update on Weinstein's upcoming "Igor" which is being created in Paris by SPARX.

Thanks to Animated News, I can pass on links to the official Exodus site where you can see a full cast list, which is actually somewhat impressive. Not only that, but the cast does not (currently) feature Andy Dick or Whoopi Goldberg, so it's already got that going for it.

The second link is a video that takes us behind the scenes with some annoying CNN correspondent who somehow managed to land a role in the film. I'm sure it was basically a "do a piece on our upcoming movie and the lifeless corpse holding the mic can have a bit part," but it's still interesting to see the process. Don't hold your breath for any clips from the film though, as there is only one that lasts about 2 seconds at the very end.

With a cast like the one listed, the film has the star power for sure. Now we'll see if they can pull off the characters and story in the same way that Pixar and Dreamworks can.

TMNT ON DVD OMG FYI ROFL... oh forget it.

Warner Bros' "TMNT" arrived on DVD shelves today.

While the film didn't do too well with either critics or box office patrons, it was still fun and totally worth the $16 bucks you can find it for at some major electronics stores.

Your other option is to go fish 4 turtles out of your local pond, tape ninja weapons to them, and then film the action, hoping that something cool happens.

Trust me... it won't.

TMNT DVD Release Info

According to DVD Active, "TMNT" will hit store shelves in all major formats on August 7th.

According to the site, no details on extras have been announced at this time, but I'm still pretty excited about picking this bad boy up. Like Jessica Simpson, the film was light on substance and heavy on visual beauty, but it was still a kick in the pants to watch.

I'd totally let Jessica Simpson kick me in the pants.

Brand New TMNT Trailer

There is a brand new (HD) trailer for "TMNT" up over on the Apple Quicktime site.

First of all, until I saw this trailer, I had no idea that the Weinstein Company was involved, which scares the turtle turds right out of me.

Second of all, I can already tell that the voices are going to completely ruin this film for me.

It sure looks nice though.

Opus Off Again?

The penguin that started it all, Opus, was supposed to star in his own 3D animated film, but now it looks as though the project may be dead (again).

According to The Business of Animation Blog:

The rumor is that planned "Opus" has died once again. The comic strip based CG film has seen its share of ups and downs, and if you believe the rumor, it is down once again.

I'm not sure that this is such a bad thing, as the film had been picked up by the Weinstein Company, and I frankly wouldn't want them to destroy one of the most beloved characters in comic strip history with a 2nd rate animated film.

The Blog goes on to state that this is just a rumor, so it's very possible the film will still get made. I guess it just depends on if the Weinstein Company can find a crew to make it for less that $100 dollars in McDonald's gift certificates.

"Igor" Set to Release in 2007

Those crazy rascals over at the Weinstein Company are at it again. This time with a CG animated film titled, "Igor."

According to the Film Company's website:

Our Igor isn't like other Igors. Our Igor has big dreams; dreams of becoming a Mad Scientist himself, of winning the Evil Science Fair, and the heart of GRETCHEN, the local village vixen. That's impossible, though, because he's just a lowly Igor. But when DR. GLICKENSTEIN, Igor's cruel master, dies just two weeks before the Evil Science Fair, that's exactly what Igor sets out to do.

The cast currently includes Christian Slater, as Igor, along with Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, Jeremy Piven, and Molly Shannon. Not only that, but it's being written by Chris McKenna, one of the writers behind "American Dad," though I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. The film is also being directed by Anthony Leondis, who's directing credits include "Home On the Range," a film viewed by many to be one of Disney's most shallow offerings of all time.

So "Igor," has the makings of a hit, but also has the makings (including "The Weinstein Factor") of being a massive turd. It will be interesting to see what comes of this one.
