You'll never look at candy the same way again after watching "Goobees."
It's an amazing short film from start to finish, but what I really loved were the subtle touches, like the little pieces of candy slinking away after the body is dragged off of them, and the candy corn crow.
Created by four recent graduates of Texas A&M, Goobees is worth your time. Just don't watch it too much or it will rot your teeth.

If I were a young buck, I would sign up to attend the Vancouver Film School in a heartbeat.
Of course, I'd also join a rock band, get hooked on nose candy, and become one of those stuntmen who rides on airplanes while they do loops.
Maybe it's a good thing I'm not a young buck anymore.

Man oh man, the VFS sure does produce some top notch talent.
While simple in concept, I still didn't see the ending coming. Of course, I also didn't see the ending coming in "Titanic" either. I mean, that ship sinking is the last thing I ever thought would happen.

So according to Cartoon Brew, some Brazilian Graphic Design students got together and tried to recreate Chuck Jones' "One Froggy Evening" in 3D.
While I commend them on their efforts, I will say that it takes some brass knockers to try and recreate an animated masterpiece such as this. I think they did an overall decent job, but the minute I saw the way the animated the frog's mouth, I was done. I watched this cartoon a million times as a kid, and I guess it was just engrained in my brain that when he croaks, his mouth opens up just a bit on one side and then rolls to the other. It sounds picky, but as soon as I saw that, something in my head just wouldn't let me enjoy the piece for the technical accomplishment that it is.
Not only that, but the students only managed to finish 2 minutes. I would have thrown their computers back at them, called them all "hacks" and then demanded that they leave my classroom immediately.
Of course then the professor would have asked what I was doing in his classroom, and why I was throwing the expensive equipment around.

Recent Academy of Art graduate, Veerapatra Jinanavin has posted this awesome animation reel.
There is some really good stuff in here, though I do think the reel tends to fall into the category of a bit "too much." Don't get me wrong, I think it's a wonderful demo reel, but the juice boxes could have probably been dropped from the mix, and maybe one or two other animations. I think the rest of the stuff is so strong that those animations mentioned just aren't needed.
Totally my opinion though, and since I picked the kid with the braided mohawk to go all the way on that karaoke show, who am I to say?
